Classic Smash Burgers w/ Cheese and Balsamic Onions

Juicy Flavourful Burgers. Easy to make and loved by everyone!

Serve with Savory Sweet Potato Wedges to make it a meal.

  1. 1. Set Oven to 450° F. If making sweet potato wedges, start those first.
  1. 2. Gather and prepare Ingredients
    1. Slice red onions thin about .5 cm (1/4 inch)
    2. Dice pickles very finely
    3. Slice tomatoes about .5 cm (1/4 inch)
  1. 3. Prepare Balsamic Onions
    1. Heat fry pan over medium heat and add 1 tbp cooking oil when hot.
    2. Add onions and cook about 4 mins until soft, stirring occasionally. (You can start step 4 while onions are cooking)
    3. Add sugar to onions and continue cooking until unions are a dark golden brown, about 8 minutes.
    4. Remove onions from heat and add basalmic vinegar and salt and pepper to taste.
    5. Remove onions from pan and cover to keep warm.
  1. 4. Burger Patties
    1. Mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, burger seasoning together.
    2. Divide into four portions and shape into balls.
    3. Smash each beef ball into a patty about 1 inch thick
    4. When onions are removed from pan, add beef patties and cook 4-5 mins per side.
    5. When done, remove patties from pan and place on baking sheet, top with shredded cheese and place on lower oven rack.
    6. Slice open brioche buns and place open on upper rack (there should be room beside wedges. (Use another baking sheet if you prefer)
    7. Leave in oven about 4-5 mins until cheese melts ad buns are toasted.
  1. 5. Make Burger Sauce
    1. Mix together bbq sauce, mayonnaise, pickle, white wine vinegar, sugar and salt.
  1. 6. Assemble Burger
    1. Place about 1/2 tbp of sauce each on both sides of bun.
    2. Place burger on bottom bun and top with basalmic onions
    3. Divide spring mix between top buns and add tomato 
    4. Serve with sweet potato wedges and extra burger sauce for dipping.
